A message from the President

Greetings,

Thank you for taking a moment to visit our site.  My name is Miriam T. Andrews-Eason and I am the 2009 President of the Chicago City Central Chapter.  Mocha Moms, Inc. is a national support group for at-home mothers of color who have chosen to modify or eliminate employment outside the home in order to devote more time to their families. Our events, activities, and meetings are designed to meet the needs of at-home mothers.  Nonetheless, we welcome all mothers (including fathers) to join our group and enjoy this wonderful season of motherhood with us.

The Central Chapter has moms with varying work and home environments.  We have members who work full-time or part-time outside the home, work at home, home-school their children, attend colleges or universities, and some who wear a few of these hats at once!  Thus, our desire is to give moms opportunities to create friendships with fellow Mochas, to have “adult-only” time each month, and to receive education and information so that we can all thrive as women in our career of motherhood.

Our theme for this year is Thriving Mochas in 2009: Mothers Prospering with a Supportive Mocha Community.  To that end, we have a focus on unity and harmony as we support our Mochas, our families and our communities.  We have bi-weekly support group meetings on Friday mornings where we gather to foster new mommy-friendships, have play-dates for our children, learn useful tips and enjoy meaningful presentations.  We plan children’s activities, couples-only events—to edify our marriages, and family events—where our Mocha Dads can join in the fun as well.

Some events and programs that we are proud to present for the 2009 year are the following: the Mocha Super Bowl on February 1st; the Black Marriage Day celebration during March 20th-22nd; the National Conference from July 30th-August 2nd; Mompreneur (an event where moms can showcase their businesses); Boys Booked on Barbershop/Girls Booked on Beauty Shop Reading Nooks (our National community service initiative); a Mocha Babysitter Exchange; and much, much more!!

If you are looking for a community of mothers who have made family their first priority by focusing on—nurturing our own joy, peace and overall health; supporting our husbands; educating our children; and enriching our communities—then look no further!!  I encourage you to read the mission, purpose and platform of our organization and also visit the National website to learn more about Mocha Moms, Inc. (just click on the links).

Please visit us at a Support Group meeting.  If you decide to become a Mocha Mom, we ask that you submit your dues ($40/year) and application after attending one of our meetings.  If you would like to visit, join or receive more information, please send me an email at chicagocentralmochamoms@gmail.com

Come Thrive With Us!
